Sustainable Retailing – Monitoring Report 2024

Original titleNachhaltiger Lebensmitteleinzelhandel – Monitoringbericht 2024
Abstract

The overall aim and framework of the project is to support and motivate food retailers on their way to a more sustainable food system. Building on the previous research project, a new systematic and comprehensive evaluation of the activities of the German food retail sector is therefore to be carried out. The aim is to identify any developments and trends and to derive measures for relevant players on the basis of the findings.

In addition to the previous research project, which focused on an environmental assessment, new indicators in the areas of animal welfare and social issues are also to be developed, and the companies assessed accordingly. The final report is to be presented, and the results discussed at a closing event with relevant stakeholders. The sub-goals are:

  • To record and evaluate the activities of food retailers in the area of environmental sustainability.
  • Analysis of the data and comparison with the results of the previous project.
  • Expansion of the evaluation grid to include animal welfare and social issues as well as the associated survey and evaluation of food retail activities. Inclusion of the results in the synthesis report
