Enhancing Resilience and Functional Biodiversity of Farming Systems by Mainstreaming Landraces in Karnataka (South India)

Abstract

Through targeted research, capacity building and supportive policy frameworks, the cultivation of paddy rice, millet and sorghum landraces can be significantly improved.

By addressing existing gaps and leveraging the unique attributes of these crops, the project aims to promote sustainable farming practices, enhance nutritional security, and diversify income sources for farmers. Through participatory research, farmer training, and policy advocacy, this project seeks to mainstream these landraces into Karnataka’s farming systems, contributing to greater resilience against climate change and economic vulnerabilities.
