The INTAQT project is a five-year European Horizon 2020 project that aims to assess the relationships between animal production systems and their product quality, in the poultry, dairy and beef sectors.
The project will model the relationship between husbandry practices and systems (defined as a combination of practices), including breeding, feeding and management of animals, with the main intrinsic quality traits of livestock products related to their safety, nutritional value and sensory features along the production chain while remaining cognisant of the processing methods. The objective is to be able to predict the quality of products as a function of the husbandry system they were exposed to, and to provide data and analytical tools to assess and control quality throughout the chicken and cattle production chains. The analysis of the relationship between husbandry practices and product quality will require the adoption of reference methodologies and the development of new rapid analytical tools to assess quality but also ensure authenticity along the agri-food chain thus instilling consumer confidence.
