New ways in plant protection in organic fruit growing: Development and evaluation of IT-supported plant protection methods and a new training system

Original titleNeue Wege im Pflanzenschutz im biologischen Obstbau: Entwicklung und Evaluation von IT-gestützten Pflanzenschutzverfahren und einem neuen Erziehungssystem
Abstract

Apple cultivation is demanding in terms of plant protection, especially if environmentally friendly and rapidly degradable natural substances and biocontrol organisms are to be used. Depending on the weather, frequent treatments with plant protection products are also necessary in organic apple cultivation. In order to reduce the use of plant protection products, new technologies such as mobile covers, controlled by sensors and IT solutions, combined with new cultivation forms (Guyot training system for narrow foliage walls) are conceivable solutions.

The project pursues the following objectives:

  • Covering systems: testing the possibility and extent of reducing the use of plant protection products with mobile covering systems and agri-photovoltaics
  • New cultivation methods - Guyot versus spindle: Testing of the Guyot training system for apples under organic cultivation conditions and comparison with the classic spindle cultivation system
