Agricultural activity in the canton of Vaud has traditionally been strongly oriented towards high productivity, economic profitability and production quality, particularly for special crops. In densely populated areas, there is a recurrent risk of tensions with the population over the use of PPh near dwellings. As part of the National Plant Protection Products Action Plan, federal authorities are proposing various measures to minimize risks. However, a complete analysis of the reduction possibilities and their effects is lacking. Various scenarios are possible: voluntary reduction of PPh, increase in requirements for PER farms, extension of the Extenso programme, increase in the share of organic farms, etc. Analyses are needed in terms of the consequences and effectiveness of the measures. Any change in agricultural activities must be effective, socially acceptable and prioritized. Without a basis for a well-founded decision, no large-scale measures can be introduced.
