FiBL-ZHAW Summer School – Designing Food Value Chains to foster the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Original titleFiBL-ZHAW Summer School
Abstract

The challenges to future global food security are enormous: climate change, biodiversity loss, poverty and injustice. Stable yields, diverse food systems, efficient use of resources, better distribution of food and food sovereignty will play a crucial role in the future.  The aim of this collaborative project is to train young researchers and future decision-makers to develop their own and new ideas for shaping the food system.

The new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN) and the concept of Planetary Boundaries show the targets with which this transformation must take place. The Summer School takes place in different European countries and always in cooperation with a local partner. During the Summer School, students explore new solutions for designing sustainable food value chains. With their new knowledge, they contribute to making value chains and food systems more sustainable in the future by gaining a global perspective on food systems through international exchange.
