Promoting biodiversity through agroecological management in selected model regions in Austria

Abstract

Agroecology is a research discipline and practice that aims to harmonize agricultural production with comprehensive ecological, social and economic sustainability and also encompasses the level of consumption and policy. A central principle of agroecology is the promotion of diversity. This includes both biological diversity and socio-economic diversity through the diversification of agricultural activities and sources of income.
In the project, agroecological management measures are implemented on pilot farms, experiences from the implementation are evaluated and the results are disseminated. Implementation will take place on 20 pilot farms (both conventional and organic) in three regions of Austria. First, the initial situation of the farms is assessed and suitable agroecological measures are selected together with the farmers, which are then implemented with the support and advice of the project partners (FiBL, LKÖ, LFI Austria, LK-advisors). The results and experiences from the project are disseminated through a professional advisory and training concept.
