This project focuses on the main stone fruit crops (cherries and plums) in northern Switzerland. In the case of organic cherries, the aim is to evaluate which sales potential is available for the near future and in which sales period there are gaps and surpluses in supply. Furthermore, it will also be investigated which varieties are in demand with regard to criteria such as shelf life, tasting quality and firmness. From this, specific variety recommendations will be developed for the trade and direct marketing.
In the organic plum sector, an analysis of the current situation will provide an overview of organic plum production on farms and in the trade. The findings will serve as a basis for calculating production costs and for evaluating challenges for future research and advisory work.
Dissemination via bulletins and exchange of experiences are central parts of the project for the transfer of knowledge into practice.
