The Schlägler rye is the oldest breed registered in the Austrian breeding book and is still grown on several hundred hectares across Austria. It is one of the rare agricultural crops (SLK). The Schlägler rye has been bred at Schlägl Abbey since 1908.
In the organically managed breeding garden in Aigen-Schlägl, we work with individual plant selection and offspring testing to preserve and improve the characteristics of Schlägler rye.
