This joint project covers the subprojects FKZ 19OE057 (FiBL Deutschland e.V), FKZ 19OE088 (Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf) and FKZ 19OE089 (Bayerische Landesanstalt für Landwirtschaft).
The project focuses on the identification of feed materials for organic turkey feeding with high native contents of the first limiting amino acid methionine and vitamin B2 (riboflavin). To optimize diet formulations the use of feed materials rich in amino acids and the use of a yeast-based feed material with high native riboflavin content will be studied. Both fast- and slow-growing turkey genotypes will be included in the studies. Feeding concepts based on compound feed and fodder silages will be compared to foraging on the free-range and supplementary feed. Enriched husbandry environments are supposed to minimize feather pecking and cannibalism. As husbandry systems fixed stables will be compared with mobile houses.
