This sixth global report provides new insights into the evolution of certified agriculture and forestry. The International Trade Centre (ITC) has teamed up once more with the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) to provide data about 14 major sustainability standards for bananas, cocoa, coffee, cotton, palm oil, soybeans, cane sugar, tea and forestry products. This report helps shape decisions of policymakers, producers and businesses, working to address systemic labour and environmental challenges through certified sustainable production.
The sixth edition of the State of Sustainable Markets report was launched in September 2021 as an e-book and is now available as a PDF. Furthermore, data and statistics are available online in an interactive format at the ITC’s Standards Map website.
Standards covered by the report continue to show growth of total certified area, with an expanding VSS share of total agricultural land, which surpasses the 20 % mark in some commodities; e.g. at least 22.7 % of the global cocoa area are certified.
