SFIAR Award Ceremony 2015

Logo of SFIAR

The Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research (SFIAR) will present their award on 25 November. The public event is hosted by the University of Bern.

Several Swiss institutions are involved in agricultural research for development (ARD). Since 2008, SFIAR has supported these efforts by honouring innovative Swiss projects with an award. The "SFIAR Team Award" is worth 10 000 Swiss francs, the "SFIAR Master Thesis Award" 1000 Swiss francs.

The SFIAR Award 2015 ceremony takes place at the University of Bern on 25 November. Zerihun Tadele and his team from the University of Bern will be rewarded for breeding more resistant varieties of tef. The grain similar to millet is considered a staple food in Ethiopia. The "SFIAR Master Thesis Award" will be given to Madeleine Kaufmann of the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences HAFL for her Master’s thesis on agricultural biodiversity in Cuba. Beate Huber will hold a speech for the award winners. The SFIAR president is the head of the department of international cooperation at the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL.

So far, two FiBL employees have been honoured by the SFIAR: In 2014, Gubir S. Bhullar received the award for his project on sustainable and more climate-friendly rice cultivation. In the previous year, Christian Andres won over the judges with his Master’s thesis on fertilisation of yams with poultry manure.

If you would like to attend the ceremony, please register until 20 November 2015.
