Scientific conference on organic agriculture takes place in Germany

Over 400 scientists gathered at the 11th Scientific Conference on Organic Agriculture to discuss topics ranging from climate change to biodiversity. The program included over 200 posters and presentations from different disciplines within organic agriculture. The conference language was German and took place from March 15-18, 2011 at the University of Giessen in Germany.

This year’s conference was organized by the Organic Agriculture Chair of the University of Gießen, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL Germany), the Agriculture Extension Services of Hessen (Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen) and the Foundation Ecology & Agriculture (Stiftung Ökologie & Landbau).

Special to this year's program, researchers and over 80 organic agriculture consultants and farmers took part in "dialogue-workshops" designed to encourage dialogue and knowledge exchange. The discussions that ensued were important stimuli helping to identify future research needs in organic agriculture. One consultant interviewed considered the workshops a huge success saying that they not only produced concrete results, but the heavy involvement from all sides made the time spent together interesting and highly motivating.

The 12th Scientific Conference on Organic Agriculture will take place in 2013 at the University of Bonn in Germany.
