On 1 August 2023, Michel Keppler succeeded Marc Schärer as Head of the Department of Finances, Resources & Administration. He joined Beate Huber and Jürn Sanders on the Board of Directors. Michel Keppler previously held a management role at the Swissmem compensation fund and the Swiss Post.

Michel Keppler has been one of three directors at FiBL since August. He is very happy to hold both the title of Director and Head of the Department of Finances, Resources & Administration, but it is not his priority. It is much more important to him to optimally support FiBL's core business: research. "I would like to bring the Department of Finances, Resources & Administration closer to the research departments again and promote the ‘we’ culture," says Michel Keppler.

Moreover, as FiBL has grown enormously in the last five years, there are old structures that no longer fit the institute. Michel Keppler is looking forward to lending a hand when it comes to adapting strategies to the new circumstances and preparing FiBL for the future. These areas were where he excelled at his last employer, the Swissmem compensation fund, as deputy director and Head of the services department: "The Swissmem compensation fund was also undergoing changes with exciting projects that I was able to implement," says Michel Keppler. Thus, he was happy at his last employer and had no plans to change.

However, FiBL convinced him: "I want to make a difference in a place where I feel comfortable in the long term," says Michel Keppler. That is exactly what he has found at FiBL: "Despite its growth, FiBL has not lost its agile start-up spirit. I'm also impressed by the enthusiasm of FiBL staff who want to make a change and make a difference." Geographically, it is also a match: two years ago, he moved into his childhood home in the canton of Aargau with his wife and three children.
