The IFOAM Animal Husbandry Alliance (IAHA) is excited to announce the Call for Contributions for the IAHA 2026 Conference, set to take place from 28 to 30 April 2026 at FiBL Switzerland in Frick. The conference will bring together experts, practitioners, and advocates from around the world to discuss the future of sustainable livestock production.

For organic movements, a unified voice to contribute its perspective to the global debate on animal husbandry is needed. In the Animal Husbandry Alliance conference of IFOAM – Organics International, themed "Organic animal husbandry: a role model for the future of livestock?", the plan is to meet, to advance bold declarations on positions, and to draft roadmaps for the sustainable future of global animal husbandry.

If you are interested in adding your perspective, you are invited to submit your contribution to the IAHA 2026 conference.

Central questions and challenges

Submissions on a variety of themes related to organic animal husbandry are welcomed, including but not limited to:

  • Animal husbandry and animal products – how much is "enough”?
  • Animal husbandry: a driver of cultural and ethical development?
  • What is the value and role of animals in my context?
  • Global food security and animal husbandry: complementary or antagonistic?
  • Principles vs practice: How do I implement organic principles on my farm?
  • Towards organic breeding programmes
  • Agroforestry and crop-animal-integration
  • One health as a key element of organic animal husbandry
  • Ecology, climate change and animal welfare: How do we manage trade-offs?

Types of contributions

  • Oral presentations: Contributions to the discussion-based conference sessions are welcomed in the form of essays. Essays should reflect on central questions and challenges concerning global animal husbandry, and should be two to four pages long. The perspectives of non-scientists are particularly welcomed. Accepted essays are included in the conference proceedings. Authors of outstanding essays are selected for oral presentations.
  • Posters: Scientific contributions are welcomed in the form of abstracts. Abstracts should contain materials and methods, a synthesis of the results and conclusions. Abstracts must not exceed one page. Accepted abstracts are included in the conference proceedings and presented as posters.

All contributions have to be written in English, must use the templates provided on the IAHA website and be submitted via the online application. The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2025.
