The European Union Group of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, theIFOAM EU Group, has now published the program of the Second European Organic Congress, which will take place on December 1 in Brussels. The congress, which will be opened by the EU Agriculture Commissioner Fischer Boel, will focus on the contributions of organic farming to facing major challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss and the global food crisis.
FiBL director Urs Niggli will speak on "Organic systems as leading concept of sustainable development, mitigating climate change and halt the loss of biodiversity."
The IFOAM EU Group is the European working level within the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements. It brings together more than 340 organisations, associations and enterprises from all EU-27, EFTA and candidate countries. IFOAM´s goal is the worldwide adoption of ecologically, socially and economically sound systems that are based on the principles of Organic Agriculture.
IFOAM-EU is a regional group of IFOAM. The group operates from an office in Brussels, from where it coordinates activities on behalf of the member organisations. Otto Schmid of FiBL representes Switzerland in this group, together with Hans Ramseier of Bio Suisse.
