The project is a mid-term evaluation of the Investing in the Agroecological Business Case (iABC) programme of the Swiss foundation Biovision. The iABC programme aims to increase the availability of suitable capital and create an enabling environment for agroecological enterprises (AEEs) in sub-Saharan Africa, with an initial focus on Kenya and Uganda.
AEEs are key to supporting agroecological transformation towards improved availability and access to healthy food, resilience, local value addition and sustainability, yet these enterprises remain severely underfunded. To address this underfunding, the programme, together with local partners, focuses on sensitizing donor and investor communities with compelling arguments and research on agroecology and AEEs. Innovative matchmaking events will be organised to bring donors and entrepreneurs together. It will also develop tools such as the Business Agroecology Criteria Tool (based on the current ACT tool), which will enable investors and donors to identify inspiring and promising agroecological enterprises and understand their benefits and contributions to sustainable food systems.
