In recent decades, animal welfare research – including in the pig sector – has generated new insights into the needs of animals as well as implementation solutions in husbandry. However, the transfer of these findings into practice is still inadequate. Textbooks and teaching materials often contain outdated management methods with regard to animal welfare and little information on the natural behaviour of pigs.
For this reason, this project aims to produce a completely new textbook that closes this gap and focuses on innovative, animal-friendly solutions. The book is intended for German-speaking countries and is aimed in particular at farmers, veterinarians, students, and consultants. The book will be didactically designed in such a way that it can be used in training programmes.
