Agroforestry systems: Type and number survey and contribution to sustain biodiversity

Original titleAgroforstsysteme: Bestandanalyse und Beitrag zur Biodiversitätsförderung
Abstract

The specific form of agroforestry systems (AFS) varies greatly, as does their contribution to the preservation of biodiversity in agricultural areas. In the project, all AFS implemented in Austria will be surveyed as far as possible and the design, maintenance measures and management by the farm manager will be systematically recorded using a structured questionnaire. Based on this inventory, the most common AFS types are categorized and analyzed according to their contribution to the conservation of biodiversity in agricultural areas using existing international scientific literature sources and expert surveys on the situation in Austria. At the same time, the inventory also serves to create an online "agroforestry map" and to make the system accessible and visible in practice and for society. The network among farmers and other stakeholders will be maintained, expanded and strengthened within the project.
