The aim of the project is to develop methods that enable fruit growers to objectively assess the water supply of their fruit crops. The tested systems will serve as decision-making tools to enable recommendations for the water management of orchards.
At the four experimental sites, a comparative cultivation with different irrigation strategies is carried out with the following treatments:
The decision-making tools developed will also be tested for their practical suitability through collaboration with pilot farms. In addition, various new measuring instruments for monitoring the water supply and the physiological condition of the trees will be tested at the experimental sites in order to better understand the reaction of the trees to different water supply levels. One aim in this context is to determine the water demand depending on the vegetation stage more precisely.
