In the future, the frequency and intensity of climate hazards will increase and present ever greater challenges to the agricultural sector. Droughts, heat waves, heavy rainfall and excess water could have a considerable impact on production if adaptation measures are not taken quickly. This project enables these participants to improve the resilience of their systems to climate change. To this end, 50 farms are participating in the project for 8 years. Various objectives have been set.
Six adaptation axes are addressed in the project:
FiBL is interested in characterising cropping patterns through a set of indicators (CITOS) and assessing their impacts on the soil and the environment, and by extension on the capacity of the cropping system to tolerate climate effects.
As for the project partners, HAFL is working on the socio-economic aspects, Agroscope is studying the aspects related to agroecosystems and exposure to climate risks, and ETH Zurich is in charge of assessing the resilience of farms. Mandaterre is responsible for project management and coordination of the work of the scientific advisory group. Proconseil is responsible for the dissemination of information and will ensure the wider dissemination of innovations for the anticipation and adaptation of agriculture to climate risks.
