Investigating antibiotic resistance genes and antibiotic resistant bacteria in pig manure as a result of the retrospective use of antibiotic

Original titleUntersuchung von Antibiotikaresistenzgenen und antibiotikaresistenten Bakterien in Schweinegülle in Funktion des retrospektiven Antibiotikaeinsatzes
Abstract

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARBs) are a relatively new type of environmental pollution and are associated with the extensive use of antibiotics to treat livestock. In the project, manure samples from twelve pig fattening and pig raising farms are qualitatively and quantitatively analysed for the presence of ARG and ARB. The participating farms differ in their current and past antibiotic use. The analysis is based on the method of meta-genomics, in which genetic material is extracted and sequenced directly from environmental samples.
