Quality assurance in Swiss organic chicory production

Original titleQualitätssicherung in der inländischen Bio-Chicorée Produktion
Abstract

Around 640 tonnes of organic chicory are produced annually in Switzerland, and about 500 tonnes are imported. There is still a very large potential for Swiss organic chicory! However, one challenge in domestic production is to achieve the optimal cone weight and cone quality that retailers expect.

In close collaboration with the growers, this project addresses the question of how to increase the weight and quality of organic chicory in order to meet the quality requirements of 4-5 cones and min. 500g per bag. The aim is to reduce major losses and food waste in the domestic organic chicory production, by an optimized and specifically adapted fertilization strategy in the field.
