CO2 screening of selected product categories of the garden centre bellaflora, comparison of the carbon footprint of different forms of cultivation and greenhouse gas balancing of two soil substrates

Original titleCO2-Screening ausgewählter Produktkategorien des Gartencenters bellaflora, Vergleich der Klimabilanz verschiedener Anbauformen sowie Treibhausgasbilanzierung von zwei Erdsubstraten
Abstract

In the first phase of the project, the greenhouse gas balance of the product groups substrates, fertilisers, decorative items and seasonal and young plants was estimated by means of literature and data bank research. In this way, the potentially largest drivers could be identified. In phase 2, the climate impact of vegetable cultivation in different cultivation forms and with vegetables from the food retail trade was compared. In the third phase of the project, a CO2 balance was drawn up for two selected products - a peat-free and a peat-containing soil substrate - based on the ISO standards 14040 and 14044. Based on the results, optimisation potentials were analysed and recommendations for reducing emissions were formulated. The results of the project can be used by bellaflora to inform customers.
