Reduction of use of antibiotics in poultry production: Alternative prophylactic measures

Abstract

The present project aims to investigate the effect of alternative prophylactic measures (e.g. flavour supplements, charcoal, microorganisms, clay minerals) on the reduction of the prevalence of bacterial infections and consequently on the incidence of antibiotic use in broiler, turkey and egg production. In detail the following objectives will be studied:

  • which of the prophylactic measures have positively affect the prevalence of infections that have to be treated with antibiotics?
  • does the combination of alternative prophylactic measures benefit?
  • do the propylactic measures improve animal health?
  • do the propylactic measures help to reduce the use of antibiotics on the farm?
  • does the use of prophylactic measures affect the economic outcome of broiler, turkey and egg production?
