Strengthening the competitiveness of various value chains in Peru

Original titleReforzar la competividad de varias cadenas de valor en Perú
Abstract

The SeCompetitivo project is an initiative of SECO and various governmental agencies in Peru. Its aim is to support Peru in improving the competitiveness of the private sector and thus contribute to sustainable economic development and poverty reduction.

In Phase II (2018-2022), the SeCompetitivo project intervenes in three strategic areas: i) developing enterprises and value chains with the aim of contributing to higher productivity (especially SMEs and small producers' associations), ii) facilitating and promoting access to international markets in order to reduce the costs of foreign trade, and iii) strengthening human capital in order to increase labour productivity.

The project supports "competitive value chains" related to various crops/products, including cacao, coffee, bananas and panela (raw cane sugar). In order to increase the competitiveness of these chains and the actors involved in them, capacity building is needed in various aspects, of which the following have been identified as priorities for this FiBL consultancy: 1) integrated management of agriculture according to environmental standards, 2) technologies and good practices for sustainable agriculture that is resistant to climate change, and 3) implementation of food safety practices at the level of individuals and institutions.
