In this communication project, we want to find out which science-based findings from the BetterGardens project are most consistent with cities' biodiversity strategies, so that private gardens can be maintained and possibly integrated into these strategies. In addition, we want to express the project findings in a way that can be easily taken up by gardeners and implemented in their daily decisions. To achieve these goals, we use a workshop-based methodology. We will start with a consultation phase where we will meet with representatives of the target cities (Bern, Lausanne, Lugano, and Zurich) to learn about their wishes regarding cooperation. In a second phase, we will hold knowledge-sharing workshops with gardeners and city representatives. The third phase involves feeding the workshop interactions back to the Better Gardens scientists so that dissemination materials can be prepared. The final phase is to create a toolbox to enable the multiplication and transfer of the project results and experiences to other Swiss cities. In this way, we can maximise the transmission of our key messages.
