Goal-oriented biodiversity promotion in the Canton of Zurich

Original titleZielorientierte Biodiversitätsförderung im Kanton Zürich
Abstract

Agriculture bears a great responsibility for the conservation of biodiversity. The biodiversity goals regarding the quality (environmental goals for agriculture, goals of the cantonal overall nature conservation concept) of the areas have not yet been achieved. In addition, approaches are needed that are more oriented towards the goals and less towards predefined measures. Biodiversity at farm level should be promoted in a target-oriented and site-specific manner. In addition, the motivation and acceptance of farmers for the promotion of biodiversity should be increased through the promotion of knowledge and more personal responsibility.

In a master plan, areas are selected that show where which habitats are to be promoted (habitat promotion areas). Areas that meet the criteria for the "right" location, the "right" habitat type and the "right" quality of the areas according to the objectives will receive subsidies. The project will start in mid-2020, practical implementation will last until mid-2026, and impact monitoring and scientific support will last until mid-2028.
