Regional Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in East Africa: a pilot on transforming farmer access to organic training materials and information through digitalization

Abstract

This pilot project aims to increase access to knowledge on organic farming of up to 30,000 farmers through the digitalization of content and testing of digital trainings.
To achieve this the project will:

  • Simplify/downscale the materials into formats which are easily accessible and understood by the smallholder farmers,
  • Provide access to knowledge via app and text message to help farmers access the training materials and information in a timely and interactive manner with little or no cost
  • Develop a strategy for sustaining access to these materials by the smallholder farmers, and
  • Develop a roll out strategy for implementing similar platforms and tools in the other three Knowledge Hubs (North, West and Southern Africa).
