Coop wants to import more Bio Suisse/Naturplan products from Europe rather than from China. North Macedonia was selected as a potential supplier because of its favourable conditions.
A pilot project for the production of borlotti and kidney beans was started in 2016. However, it became apparent that, for the consolidation of the supply chain, know-how of organic agriculture was too limited. The importing company Halba/Sunray consequently assigned FiBL to facilitate the development of a supply chain and to support the farmers with knowledge in organic production technique. Besides beans, supply chains of other products such as dried fruits and sunflower seeds shall be developed.
