The study aimed to explore children's eating habits in the context of biocultural background based on participatory research. Under the guidance of academics school students from two year 8 classes (age: 13 to 14) in two different Viennese schools, investigated their nutritional behavior and that of all scholars in their schools in 2013. As research methods food diaries, 24-hour recall, focus groups and photo documentation were used. Based on these introductionary methods the scholars developed a semi-structured questionnaire to survey scholars in both schools. The pupils consider their climate-impact of their eating habits and get in contact with issues of sustainable consumption patterns. It was shown that the inclusion of school students in the research process allow new and valid insights to be gained into young people's eating behavior.
