According to the new EU Regulation on organic farming from 2018, starting from January 1st, 2021 each EU Member State must provide a database which lists the national available organic young and breeding animals and juvenile aquaculture animals transparently.
The aim of the project is to develop a compliant database. The database should be accessible to all interested parties, including farmers, traders, suppliers, the control bodies and competent authorities to provide them a quick and efficient way to check the availability of organic and juvenile aquaculture animals. Additionally, suppliers can list their available animals and farmers can request, if necessary, a derogation for buying conventional animals. Therefore, the database will become a central source of information and platform for various animal species and serves as a basis for the reporting to the EU Commission about granted derogations.
An extension of the database and its use by authorities in other European countries is possible. This supports the standardization of the testing systems and thus the derogation procedure in Europe.
