Are you interested in data analysis and want to help us generate more robust insights into the comparative performance of certified crop production in Switzerland?
Usually, assessments of the performance of organic farming consist of a binary comparison of organic versus conventional farms. In Switzerland, there is a unique opportunity to also include a third system (IP Suisse) as a hybrid between the other two production systems. Therefore, a more nuanced picture of contrasts in farm performance can emerge. Using cross-sectional survey data from 2700 farms in Switzerland and appropriate econometric methods for comparative analysis (e.g. inverse probability weights), the thesis will provide insights on inputs, outputs, and practices across the three different farming systems.
This thesis project requires some prior knowledge of methods for the statistical analysis of farm survey data.
